The bonus mining speed that you get from high durability tool thanks to stonebound is a lot higher than from redstone. This way I can have it almost broken (the highest mining speed with stonebound) and still use it. For my miner I use the same basic setup as 2nd post, but with diamond, emerald, lapis and electric modifier (+ diamond gold block for modifier).
